Invar-36 is made up of roughly 35-38% nickel, with the rest being iron, and it contains very low levels of carbon, sulfur, phosphorus, and other impurities. Its mechanical properties are impressive, featuring a tensile strength of about 490-620 MPa, yield strength ranging from 240-345 MPa, and elongation typically between 30-45%, depending on the temper and condition. The modulus of elasticity is around 141-148 GPa. Plus, this alloy boasts a remarkably low coefficient of thermal expansion (approximately 1–2 ×10⁻⁶ /°C) across a useful operating temperature range of about 200-260°C.
